The Cosmic Law of Distance: What Stars Teach Us About Healthy Relationships

Sit in a counseling room long enough, and nine out of ten conversations eventually circle back to one thing: other people.

*"This person is hurting me."*
*"Why does everyone treat me this way?"*

After more than twenty years in this work, I keep arriving at the same answer — the key to every relationship is distance. Today, I want to borrow a law I return to often: the law of stars and planets.

In the vast darkness of the universe, stars have shone for hundreds of millions of years, radiating their own light outward in every direction. Seen through the eyes of nature, this is the universe's grandest non-material message, expressed through matter. Our lives work the same way. Just as visible laws govern the material world, there is also a law that governs the invisible — our soul and energy.

1. Stars and Planets: Those Who Emit Light, and Those Who Absorb It

In the universe, stars and planets operate by entirely different energetic principles.

The star that emits light: A star generates its own energy and continuously radiates it outward. To emit light means to offer something beneficial to other beings and to nature itself.

The planet that receives light: A planet cannot produce its own light. It absorbs the light and minerals a star provides while it continues building its own strength. At this stage, a planet isn't yet contributing much to the universe — it's still focused on growing itself.

2. Human Speech Is the Light the Soul Radiates

Bring this law into human life, and something remarkable appears: the words we speak are that light.

This is one of the clearest patterns I've seen in counseling. When someone stays silent, it's hard to know what's inside them — but the moment they open their mouth, their depth reveals itself completely. The energy that leaves us when we speak is the very light our soul radiates. When our words genuinely help society and humanity, we become like a star.

*"If you stay silent, the mass within your soul remains hidden. But the moment you speak, your level — the true mass of your soul — is revealed entirely through your words."*

We are all, in essence, invisible spiritual beings, and the moment we hear someone speak, we intuitively sense their mass. When my words lack depth or clarity, some people may naturally begin taking the lead. But when I speak with refined, honest words, they tend to listen more carefully. In the end, every outcome in a relationship is decided within the conversation itself.

3. Keeping the Right Distance With Every Relationship

To meet the relationships that come into your life correctly, you must learn to listen all the way through and discern the mass of the other person's soul. Once you've discerned that, you must maintain a "beautiful distance" according to their mass.

- Aligned Mass & Values: This is a relationship meant to merge and grow together. Combined energy can accomplish great things.

- Mass is about 30% less than yours: If this person is full of complaints, they may be someone you're meant to help. But you must keep a respectful distance. If pity draws you too close, their emotional burdens can gradually become your own.

- Vastly Different Mass: When someone tries to shake you or force conversation upon you, stay silent — not from coldness, but from self-respect. If you don't mix your words with theirs, they'll naturally drift outside your orbit.

4. Becoming a Star That Shines Quietly in Your Own Universe

The stars in the night sky may look scattered at random, but each one maintains the exact distance suited to its own mass — together forming a vast galaxy. This, in the end, is what healthy boundaries really look like: not walls, but the right amount of space that lets two lights shine without burning each other out.

Listen deeply to the words of every relationship that approaches you, but cultivate the true mass of your own soul. When you manage your non-material energy this way, you become a star that shines quietly on its own — steady, unhurt, and uniquely yourself.
